A security scare unfolded at the White House on Thursday afternoon, April 16, after a man allegedly attempted to scale part of the perimeter barrier before being quickly stopped by United States Secret Service officers.
According to officials, the suspect tried to cross a construction bollard near the Treasury Building on the north east side of the White House complex.
Security personnel responded immediately and detained the man near a pedestrian gate before he could move further into the restricted area.
During the incident, one officer reportedly sustained a minor injury during a physical struggle with the suspect.
Authorities said both the injured officer and the suspect were taken to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation. The injuries were described as non life threatening.
Secret Service Communications Chief Anthony Guglielmi confirmed the development, stating that officers acted swiftly to contain the situation.
The incident has renewed attention on security measures around the White House, one of the most protected locations in the United States.
It also comes days after reports of suspected gunfire near Lafayette Park, an area located opposite the White House, though no injuries or suspects were found in that earlier case.
As of the time of this report, investigators have not released the identity of the suspect or the motive behind the attempted breach.
