Tope Alabi Threatens Lawsuit Against Canada-Based Pastor Over Toluwanisings Death Allegations

Gospel singer Tope Alabi has threatened legal action against a Canada-based pastor identified as Tayo Kumuyi, also known as Pastor Tayo Ministries, over alleged social media publications linking her to the death of gospel minister Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, popularly known as Toluwanisings, and other ministers.

Alabi’s solicitors, Oakmount Legal Practitioners, issued a cease-and-desist letter dated October 24, 2026, demanding that the alleged defamatory publications be removed and followed by a public retraction and apology within 24 hours.

The letter, titled “Cease and Desist: Malicious and Defamatory Publications and Threats Against Our Client,” described itself as a final demand for the immediate removal of the posts and an apology.

According to the legal notice, publications allegedly shared between October 20 and 24 on the Facebook page Pastor Tayo Ministries accused Alabi of involvement in murder and ritual killings, including claims linking her to the deaths of several gospel ministers.

The singer’s lawyers strongly rejected the allegations, describing them as false and damaging to her reputation, professional career and Christian ministry.

“These statements accuse our client of murder and of ritual killing. There is no more serious allegation that can be made against a person, least of all a minister of the gospel. They are false in every particular,” the solicitors stated.

They challenged the page operator to provide evidence supporting the claims, arguing that no police investigation, official finding or court decision had established any connection between Alabi and the deaths in question.

The lawyers also said Alabi had publicly and privately mourned Toluwanisings following his death and had no involvement in his death or that of any other person.

The notice accused the publisher of using the grief surrounding the late gospel singer’s death to spread allegations against Alabi and encouraging followers to share the claims further.

The solicitors also cited a separate post allegedly published after Alabi issued an earlier public notice warning against defamatory statements on October 23.

According to the letter, the post stated: “Tope Alabi, no letter will save you from my hand. Your only option is leaving your hiding place.”

Alabi’s lawyers characterised the statement as a threat and argued that it demonstrated an intention to continue the alleged harassment despite the earlier warning.

They further claimed that the publications had attracted hundreds of reactions, comments and shares, with some comments suggesting that readers were accepting the allegations as true.

On the legal implications, the solicitors argued that the publications could constitute actionable libel under applicable law because they allegedly attributed serious criminal conduct to their client.

They maintained that presenting accusations as spiritual revelations or religious opinions would not automatically exempt a publisher from legal responsibility.

The letter also addressed the fact that the recipient was reportedly based in Canada, arguing that publishing material about a Nigerian public figure to an audience in Nigeria could still raise legal issues in the country where the alleged reputational damage occurred.

The solicitors consequently demanded the removal of the disputed posts, an end to further publication of the allegations, and the withdrawal of any requests encouraging others to share them.

They also requested an unreserved public retraction and apology on the same Facebook page, to remain pinned for 14 consecutive days and receive prominence reasonably equivalent to that of the original publications.

In addition, the lawyers instructed the recipient to preserve relevant evidence, including posts, recordings, messages, drafts and available account records, warning that removing the material from public view should not involve destroying or altering potential evidence.

The letter further requested details of the factual basis for any allegations the recipient intended to maintain and asked whether the claims had been reported to the Nigeria Police Force or another competent authority.

Oakmount Legal Practitioners warned that failure to comply within 24 hours could lead to further action, including court proceedings seeking damages, injunctions and legal costs. The notice also mentioned possible complaints to Meta Platforms and referrals of the alleged threats to law enforcement.

However, the solicitors clarified that their demands were not intended to prevent truthful reporting, lawful investigations or legitimate commentary protected by law.

The letter was signed by Toluwanimi Okunade of Oakmount Legal Practitioners on behalf of Alabi.

Toluwanisings, whose real name was Olayemi Bayonile Bolaji, died on October 14, 2026, aged 41. Alabi publicly mourned the gospel minister following his death.

The legal notice represents Alabi’s response to the allegations and sets out the demands made by her lawyers. It does not, by itself, establish that a lawsuit has been filed or that a court has made any finding against the recipient.
