The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has assured Nigerians and international travellers that there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola virus disease in the country.
The agency gave the assurance amid growing concerns following reported Ebola outbreaks in parts of Central Africa.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, FAAN disclosed that preventive measures have already been intensified across international airports nationwide to prevent any possible importation of the virus into Nigeria.
According to the Authority, robust health surveillance and monitoring systems have been activated at all international airports to ensure early detection and immediate response to any suspected case.
FAAN explained that it is working closely with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, Port Health Services, and other relevant agencies to strengthen passenger screening procedures.
The agency noted that special attention is being given to travellers arriving from regions considered high-risk for Ebola transmission.
According to the statement, passengers are currently being screened for symptoms associated with the Ebola virus disease, while any suspected case would be immediately isolated for further medical evaluation in line with national and international health protocols.
FAAN also stated that staff sensitisation programmes have been intensified alongside emergency response preparations and coordination with airport stakeholders.
The Authority urged travellers to remain calm and cooperate fully with health officials during screening exercises at airports.
Passengers were further advised to promptly report any symptoms or health concerns to relevant authorities to support public health safety and ensure safe airport operations across Nigeria.
The reassurance comes as global attention remains focused on recent Ebola concerns reported in parts of Africa.
