Siminalayi Fubara has announced his withdrawal from the All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary election in Rivers State.
The Rivers State governor disclosed the decision in a statement personally signed on Wednesday.
According to Fubara, although the decision was difficult, he remains committed to supporting whoever eventually emerges as the APC governorship candidate in the forthcoming election.
“After deep reflection and extensive consultations with my family, friends, and associates, I have taken the difficult but necessary decision to withdraw from the APC governorship primaries,” he stated.
“I do so with a full heart and with a firm commitment to support whoever emerges as the candidate of our great party.”
The governor thanked his supporters for their loyalty and sacrifices throughout the political process, while acknowledging that many of them may feel disappointed by his decision.
Fubara also explained that his recent silence on political matters was deliberate and guided by what he described as the higher interest of Rivers State.
According to him, the period involved enormous pressure and difficult choices.
The governor additionally expressed appreciation to the APC leadership for giving him a platform during the process.
He also thanked President Bola Tinubu for what he described as support and encouragement.
Fubara urged APC members and his supporters to remain united and committed to the party, insisting that the APC remains a collective political family focused on building a stronger future for Rivers State.
The announcement is expected to further reshape the political landscape in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections.
