IGP Disu Assures Nigerians Of School Safety Nationwide

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has assured Nigerians that schools across the country remain safe amid ongoing efforts to strengthen security around educational institutions.

The IGP gave the assurance on Wednesday while receiving Jainaba Jagne and an international delegation at the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja.

The visit formed part of efforts aimed at improving school protection systems across Africa and assessing Nigeria’s implementation of the Safe Schools Declaration initiative.

The delegation included representatives from Somalia, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Ethiopia, as well as officials from the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack and Save the Children International.

During the meeting, Ambassador Jagne commended the Nigeria Police Force for its commitment to improving school security and child protection.

According to her, several African countries are interested in studying and adapting Nigeria’s Safe Schools model as part of wider continental efforts to safeguard children and educational institutions affected by insecurity.

In his remarks, IGP Disu reaffirmed the commitment of the police force to the full implementation of the Safe Schools Declaration through collaboration with educational authorities, development partners, and other stakeholders.

He stated that the police would continue deploying intelligence-led policing, patrol operations, rapid response mechanisms, and technology-driven strategies to improve safety in schools nationwide.

The police chief also appreciated the visiting delegation for recognising Nigeria’s efforts in strengthening educational security and protecting children from the effects of armed conflict.

He reiterated the readiness of the Nigeria Police Force to support regional partnerships and collaborative initiatives aimed at improving school safety across Africa.
