Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has announced his resignation from the African Democratic Congress.
Obi made the decision public through a detailed statement shared on his verified X account.
He said his exit was driven by growing internal crises within political parties, which he believes continue to distract from addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
According to him, the same issues that affected the Labour Party are now emerging within the ADC.
He pointed to ongoing court cases, internal divisions, and struggles for control as signs of deepening instability.
Obi clarified that his decision was not based on personal disagreements with party leaders.
He described figures such as David Mark and Atiku Abubakar as respected individuals.
The former Anambra State governor also expressed concern about a political environment where genuine reform efforts are often misunderstood or resisted.
He questioned why values such as integrity, accountability, and prudent management are sometimes viewed negatively.
Obi stressed that his political ambition is not driven by personal gain or the pursuit of office.
He said his focus remains on building a society where citizens feel secure and supported.
Despite leaving the ADC, he reaffirmed his commitment to national development and the pursuit of competent leadership, justice, and equal opportunity.
The move is expected to influence political alignments as preparations for the 2027 general elections continue.
