Operatives of the Department of State Services in Borno State, working alongside forest guards, have intercepted a large consignment of medical supplies suspected to be intended for members of the Islamic State West Africa Province.
The interception reportedly took place on Friday in Kaga Local Government Area of Borno State during a coordinated intelligence-led operation targeting insurgent logistics networks operating within forest corridors in the North-East.
According to security sources cited by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the operation was carried out along a suspected supply route believed to be used by terrorist groups for the movement of materials and supplies.
Items recovered during the operation reportedly included large quantities of pain relief drugs, anti-malaria injections, antibiotics and other pharmaceutical products.
Security sources said the supplies were believed to be part of a resupply effort aimed at supporting insurgents who had suffered casualties and operational setbacks during recent counter-terrorism operations involving Nigerian security forces and international partners.
The sources further alleged that the medical items were being transported in small, concealed batches through remote forest routes to avoid detection by security patrols.
Authorities described the seizure as a significant development in ongoing efforts to dismantle insurgent logistics and support networks operating across the North-East.
While full operational details were not disclosed, security officials said the interception forms part of broader measures designed to disrupt the movement of supplies to terrorist enclaves and weaken the operational capabilities of armed groups.
The recovered materials have reportedly been taken into custody for forensic examination and further investigation.
Security agencies are also expected to intensify surveillance and intelligence-gathering operations aimed at identifying individuals and networks linked to the movement of supplies to insurgent groups.
