PDP Blasts Fayose Over Claim That Oyo School Kidnapping Was Politically Motivated

The Peoples Democratic Party has strongly criticized former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, over his allegation that the recent abduction of pupils and teachers in Oyo State was orchestrated to embarrass President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement issued by the PDP South West Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati, the party described Fayose’s remarks as reckless, insensitive and politically dangerous.

Atofarati said the allegation was irresponsible and provocative, arguing that it exposed what he described as glaring double standards regarding insecurity, public accountability and political morality.

According to him, it is unfortunate that a former governor would attempt to turn a national security tragedy into a political issue at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with kidnappings, killings and displacement caused by criminal elements across the country.

The reaction follows comments made by Fayose during a televised interview, where he questioned the handling of the recent abduction of students and teachers in parts of Oyo State and suggested that the incident may have been used to politically undermine President Tinubu.

The former governor’s remarks generated widespread reactions, with critics accusing him of politicizing a sensitive security issue involving schoolchildren, teachers and affected families.

Responding to the claim, Atofarati urged Nigerians to reject attempts to use insecurity as a political weapon.

“This is a reckless and politically dangerous allegation. Security challenges require responsible leadership, national unity and sincere collaboration, not inflammatory allegations from individuals whose political positions shift according to personal interests,” he said.

The PDP spokesperson maintained that addressing insecurity requires collective action and cooperation among all stakeholders rather than divisive political accusations.

He also expressed support for the administration of Seyi Makinde, commending the governor’s efforts in responding to the security challenges confronting the state.

According to Atofarati, the party stands with the people of Oyo State and supports ongoing efforts aimed at securing the release of abducted victims and improving security across affected communities.

The controversy comes amid heightened public concern over the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area, an incident that has sparked nationwide calls for stronger security measures and urgent action to secure the safe return of those still in captivity.
