A protest in Abuja was briefly thrown into confusion on Thursday after human rights activist and African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, reportedly collapsed during a demonstration in the Federal Capital Territory.
The protest, which focused on insecurity and other pressing national concerns, was interrupted as demonstrators rushed to assist Sowore after he allegedly fell unconscious in the crowd.
Eyewitnesses said panic spread across the protest ground as participants gathered around the activist to find out what had happened.
Videos circulating on social media captured emotional scenes from the demonstration, with some protesters heard shouting in distress.
“Sowore don faint oooo, they din kpai him oooo,” voices in the footage could be heard saying as others attempted to create space and render assistance.
According to reports from the scene, Sowore was quickly evacuated from the protest venue in a vehicle shortly after the incident.
The exact circumstances surrounding his reported collapse were not immediately clear, and there was no official confirmation on whether it was linked to exhaustion, an underlying health condition, or any external factor.
The demonstration had attracted Nigerians demanding stronger government action to address insecurity, economic hardship and other socio-economic challenges affecting citizens.
However, attention shifted from the protest’s core message following the unexpected incident involving the veteran activist.
The development has since sparked widespread reactions online.

As of the time of filing this report, Sowore’s media team had not issued an official statement on his condition, while supporters continued to seek updates on his health.
