African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has released a fresh video which he says shows the faces of individuals who attacked him and members of his team in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Sowore described the footage as a major breakthrough in his efforts to identify those responsible for the October 30 incident, which occurred at Tawakalitu Restaurant in the Dalimore area shortly after he attended an interview on MIDAS FM 90.5.
In a post on his verified X account, the activist said the individuals involved believed the available CCTV recordings had been erased but claimed another video had emerged showing their faces.
“This is a major breakthrough. The video shows their faces clearly. They thought they erased the CCTV but we got another video,” Sowore said.
He also accused individuals allegedly linked to the Ekiti State Government House of carrying out the attack.
The AAC candidate further alleged that the Ekiti State Police Command and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) took possession of the restaurant’s CCTV equipment and returned it without the original recordings.
Sowore accused the police of attempting to suppress evidence that could help identify those involved. However, the allegation concerning the handling or deletion of the CCTV footage has not been independently established.
The incident happened on Friday, October 30, after Sowore completed his radio interview in Ado-Ekiti. He and members of his team were reportedly at the restaurant when a group of men confronted them, leaving the activist and some associates injured.
The Ekiti State Police Command initially described the incident as an altercation between Sowore and some individuals at the restaurant. The command said officers responded to a distress call, rescued those involved and took the injured to the Police Hospital in Ado-Ekiti for treatment.
Police spokesperson Sunday Abutu also said Commissioner of Police Michael Falade had ordered an investigation into the incident.
In a subsequent development, the command announced the arrest of 11 suspects in connection with the incident. Police said the suspects were arrested in the Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti and that several items, including mobile phones and walkie-talkies, were recovered.
The command said investigations were continuing to establish the individual roles of those arrested and identify anyone else who may have been involved.
Sowore, however, has continued to question the handling of the investigation and accused security agencies of failing to address the allegations surrounding the attack.
