The Oyo State Police Command has arrested two men over the alleged unlawful possession of a suspected human skull recovered during a security operation in the state.
According to the police, the arrests followed intelligence reports indicating that a suspect was in possession of what was believed to be a human skull. Acting on the information, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, ordered a joint operation involving officers of the command and personnel of the Amotekun Corps.
During the operation, security operatives apprehended Shittu Isah, a resident of the Kajola area in Ijio. A suspected human skull was recovered from him and taken into custody as evidence.
Police said the suspect was immediately detained for questioning. During interrogation, Isah allegedly admitted that the skull had been exhumed from a Muslim burial ground in Ijio.
Investigators also disclosed that the suspect claimed he did not carry out the act alone. His statement led to the arrest of another suspect, identified as Tunde Ajibade, who is currently assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries into the case.
Confirming the development, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the recovered exhibit has been preserved for forensic examination to determine whether it is of human origin.
He added that detectives are continuing their investigation to establish the motive behind the alleged offence, uncover the full circumstances surrounding the incident, and identify any other individuals who may have been involved.
The police assured residents that investigations remain ongoing and reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring public safety across Oyo State.
