APC Won’t Release El-Rufai Before 2027 Polls, ADC Claims

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government plans to keep former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in custody until after the 2027 general election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, ADC spokesman Bolaji Abdullahi said the opposition believes efforts are being made to make it difficult for El-Rufai to secure bail despite the charges against him being bailable.

According to Abdullahi, the ADC is not against the prosecution of anyone with a case to answer but argued that imposing tough bail conditions raises concerns about the government’s intentions.

He claimed the APC fears that a free El-Rufai would strengthen the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections, alleging that this is why the former governor may remain in custody until after the polls.
