Security Operatives Foil Attacks, Rescue INEC Official and Recover Stolen Cattle in Zamfara

Security forces operating in Zamfara State have recovered an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) loaded with motorcycles from suspected bandits during a counter-ambush operation that reportedly left more than 100 terrorists dead.

Journalist Bakatsine, known for reporting on conflict and insecurity in Nigeria’s North-West, shared the development on X on Thursday. According to him, the recovered APC arrived in Gummi town following the successful operation against the armed groups.

A video circulating alongside the report showed the armoured vehicle entering the town with several motorcycles loaded inside it.

The latest success comes a day after security forces rescued an abducted official of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and foiled multiple bandit attacks in coordinated operations across the state.

Bakatsine reported that heavily armed bandits on about 50 motorcycles attacked communities in Talata Mafara, rustled hundreds of cattle, and abducted INEC official Aliyu Mohammed after he had transported NECO examination materials to Sokoto. His Toyota Hilux vehicle and the examination papers were later recovered intact.

Operatives from the Police Victim and Crime Response Unit (VCRU), working with the military, tracked the bandits to Gando Forest. In the ensuing engagement, they rescued Mohammed and another victim unharmed and recovered hundreds of stolen cattle.
