The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for their involvement in the kidnapping of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Justice Salim Ibrahim delivered the judgment after convicting Abdulrazak Umar, also known as Abu Khalifa/Abu Khalid; Yunusa Musa, also known as Yunusa Bin Musa; and Shamsu Adamu Sani, also known as Abu Itisar.
The three defendants were prosecuted by the Department of State Services (DSS) on allegations linked to the abduction of students and teachers, as well as their association with a proscribed terrorist group.
Although they were arraigned on a 10-count charge, the defendants pleaded guilty to several counts, including Counts 4 and 6, admitting to being associates of the bandits responsible for carrying out the kidnapping.
Following their guilty plea, Justice Ibrahim convicted the trio and sentenced each of them to life imprisonment for offences relating to their membership of a proscribed terrorist group and concealing knowledge of the activities of the bandits.
The judgment marks the conclusion of the prosecution initiated by the DSS over the high-profile school kidnapping case in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.
