2027 Election: Sowore Questions Tinubu’s Academic Credentials, Alleges Differences in Cer

Presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has alleged inconsistencies in the academic credentials submitted by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking with journalists on Monday, Sowore claimed that the document from Chicago State University presented by Tinubu for the current election cycle is different from the certificate he submitted when he contested and won the Lagos State governorship election in 1999.

According to the AAC presidential candidate, Nigerians should carefully examine the educational records of those seeking public office before casting their votes.

Sowore alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate submitted only a document from Chicago State University, insisting that it does not match the academic paper previously filed with electoral authorities during the 1999 governorship election.

“The APC candidate only presented a paper from Chicago State University, which was different from the paper he presented in 1999,” Sowore said.

The allegations followed INEC’s publication on Friday of the credentials and personal details submitted by all presidential candidates contesting the 2027 election, in line with electoral requirements.

Tinubu’s educational qualifications have remained a subject of public debate in recent years, particularly over the absence of his primary and secondary school certificates. The latest claims by Sowore have renewed discussions surrounding the President’s academic records as preparations for the 2027 general election gather momentum.

Neither President Tinubu nor the APC had responded publicly to Sowore’s latest allegations at the time of filing this report. INEC has also not issued any statement regarding the claims.
