Timini Egbuson Opens Up on Borrowing Money to Fund Luxury Lifestyle, Says He Chose Financial Freedom Over Fake Living

Popular Nollywood actor Timini Egbuson has shared how he once relied on borrowed money to sustain an expensive lifestyle, admitting that the pressure to keep up appearances influenced many of his financial decisions.

Speaking during a recent episode of the MENtality Podcast, the actor reflected on his past spending habits, revealing that he frequently splurged on luxury items, particularly designer perfumes, in an effort to maintain a certain image.

According to Egbuson, he eventually realised that chasing material possessions did not bring lasting satisfaction. He said his outlook on wealth and success changed after recognising that genuine happiness is more valuable than constantly trying to own the latest luxury products or impress people on social media.

The actor disclosed that he once owned around 150 bottles of perfume, but now believes the money spent on building that collection would have been better invested in real estate.

He explained that while there is nothing wrong with buying expensive watches, cars or other luxury items, people should first ask themselves whether those purchases are driven by personal desire or the need to gain approval from others.

Egbuson also spoke about the importance of finding contentment regardless of one’s financial situation. He noted that there were periods when he struggled financially, yet he remained positive because he had learned not to tie his happiness to material possessions.

He added that many people feel compelled to project a perfect lifestyle online even during difficult times, warning that living for appearances can become emotionally exhausting.

Reflecting on his personal journey, the Nollywood star admitted that he once lived beyond his means and even took loans simply to impress others. However, he said he has since abandoned that lifestyle and now prioritises financial wisdom and personal fulfilment over public validation.

Egbuson’s remarks have sparked conversations about financial discipline, social media pressure and the growing culture of maintaining luxury lifestyles at the expense of long-term financial stability. His experience serves as a reminder that sustainable financial decisions often matter more than temporary displays of wealth.
