A 26-year-old woman, identified as Vainess Kanyama, has died in Kitwe, Zambia, after she was allegedly assaulted during a confrontation with a woman accused of having an affair with her husband.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, in Kapoto Township, where Kanyama and her husband lived.
According to her uncle, Derrick Bwalya, Kanyama had gone to confront Christin Ntundwe over an alleged relationship with her husband.
Bwalya said he later received a call informing him that his niece had been found unconscious near a market.
“I found my niece bleeding from the nose and she was unresponsive and when I attempted to take her to the hospital, I was told that she had already died,” he said.
He said the matter was subsequently reported to the police.
According to the family, one of Kanyama’s daughters was with her during the incident and later returned home to alert relatives after finding her mother unconscious.
A post-mortem examination reportedly found that Kanyama died from blood clots on both sides of the brain. Her family buried her on Friday following the examination.
Bwalya said the family is demanding justice and called on Kanyama’s husband to cooperate with investigators.
He also said the woman accused in connection with the incident had fled and was being sought by authorities.
Kanyama is survived by three children, the youngest of whom is five years old.
