Re-elected Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has directed the state’s Attorney General to withdraw the lawsuit against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over the freezing of the state government’s bank account.
Adeleke disclosed this during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics shortly after he was declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
The governor said he had decided to move past the dispute following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s intervention.
“I’m putting them behind. What else do I want? I have instructed my Attorney General to drop it. Mr. President has done well. He called me. What more do I want?” Adeleke said.
Adeleke had previously challenged the EFCC’s decision to restrict access to the state government’s account, describing the action as politically motivated and harmful to the administration’s operations.
The account freeze became a major political issue after it occurred shortly before the Osun governorship election.
Following the development, President Tinubu directed the EFCC to lift the restrictions and discontinue the related legal proceedings.
On allegations that some of his supporters and government officials had been summoned and questioned by the EFCC, Adeleke said he had directed his legal team to provide the necessary assistance.
“Well, we have been talking. I have been calling all my lawyers to go there. I’m sure the APC in Osun, according to them, they are telling us they are using federal might,” he said.
Adeleke was declared winner of the Osun governorship election after polling 511,067 votes, defeating APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
