Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied reaching any agreement with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in exchange for his support for the President’s second-term bid in the 2027 presidential election.
Adeleke made the clarification during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, following his re-election as governor of Osun State.
The governor said his decision to support Tinubu was based on the President’s background as a Yoruba man from the South-West and his desire to encourage Tinubu to continue development projects in the region.
“No, I never reached an agreement with Mr President. My support is just based on the fact that he’s a Yoruba man and he’s from the South-West,” Adeleke said.
He added that he wanted the President to continue paying attention to federal infrastructure projects in the South-West.
“I feel like, well, since a Yoruba man has won the first term, maybe we should give him another chance to develop his reforms,” he said.
When asked whether he would fully support Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election, Adeleke responded, “Absolutely, I will.”
The governor also expressed his willingness to work with members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, including his recent election rival, Bola Oyebamiji, and former Osun governor Gboyega Oyetola, where such cooperation would serve Tinubu’s political interests.
“As long as it’s for Mr President, I have no objections; I will work with them,” Adeleke said.
He further pledged to participate in Tinubu’s 2027 campaign whenever the President begins his re-election campaign.
“Whenever Mr President is ready to campaign and so forth, I will participate in whatever way he needs me to,” he added.
Adeleke’s comments followed remarks by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who had thanked the governor for publicly reaffirming his support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
Adeleke was first elected governor of Osun State in 2022 and secured a second term in the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
He polled 511,067 votes to defeat APC candidate Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes, while ADC candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won in 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured victory in 11.
