Arsenal have completed the signing of England international defender Ezri Konsa from Aston Villa in a deal worth £55 million.

The 28-year-old centre-back has joined the Premier League champions on a four-year contract, with Arsenal holding an option to extend the agreement by another 12 months.

The transfer follows several weeks of negotiations between Arsenal and Aston Villa, with the final agreement reached on Wednesday. Villa could receive up to a further £4 million if the agreed performance-related conditions are met.

Konsa expressed his excitement after completing his move to Arsenal and said he was determined to contribute to the club’s pursuit of more trophies.

“It’s a privilege to be here and I can’t wait to get started,” Konsa said.

“I want to keep winning, I’m hungry to win and that’s what I’m here for. I’ll do everything in my power to continue bringing success to this club.”

The defender also described the transfer as a significant moment for him and his family, admitting that the full impact of joining Arsenal may only become clear when the new season begins.

“It’s a proud moment for me and my family to play for one of the best teams in the world. A lot of emotions have gone through my head, but I think it will really kick in on the first matchday,” he added.

Konsa joined Aston Villa in 2019 and went on to make almost 300 appearances for the club. During his time at Villa Park, he helped the team secure the Europa League title last season and played a key role as the club finished in the Premier League’s top four twice over the past three seasons.

His move to Arsenal represents another major step in the defender’s career as he enters what should be the peak years of his playing career.

The England international is expected to strengthen Arsenal’s defensive options as the club prepares to defend its Premier League title and compete for further domestic and European honours.
