Afrobeats superstar Davido has announced his decision to distance himself from Nigerian politics following the re-election of his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, as governor of Osun State.
Davido made the statement while reacting to a post about the election by APC youth leader Dayo Israel.
The singer, who was openly involved in the Osun governorship election and campaigned in support of Adeleke, said he stood by his family throughout the contest without seeking outside support or protection.
He also expressed frustration over the criticism and backlash he received during the election period, describing his critics as ruthless and disgusting.
“I brought no one! No one defended me! I backed my family on my own!! You guys r ruthless n disgusting! Eeewwww! I have done my job! Nigerian politics is evil AND I DONT WANT TO BE A PART OF IT TILL GOD HELPS US!” Davido wrote.
His statement has since triggered mixed reactions on X, with some users praising him for supporting his family while others questioned whether he would maintain the same position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Some critics argued that Davido should continue using his influence to speak on political issues affecting Nigerians, particularly after his vocal involvement in the Osun election.
Others supported his decision to step away from politics, saying celebrities should not be pressured into continued political participation.
Davido had been highly vocal throughout the Osun election, particularly in his support for Adeleke, who defeated APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji to secure a second term as governor.
