Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Dino Melaye, has told President Bola Tinubu and his family to begin packing their belongings from the Aso Rock Presidential Villa ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Melaye made the statement on Monday during an appearance on Arise Television’s Prime Time, where he criticised the Tinubu administration over what he described as widespread hardship and a growing disconnect between the government and Nigerians.
The former lawmaker cited hunger, insecurity, alleged corruption and what he described as the government’s lack of concern for the difficulties facing citizens.
Melaye expressed confidence that the ADC would defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2027 election.
“The president and his family members should begin to pack their luggage from the Aso Rock Villa, including those in the Boys’ Quarters,” he said.
He predicted that the outcome of the 2027 election would produce a change of government.
“The results will tell in January because there will be a change of government in 2027,” Melaye said.
According to him, the ADC’s strategy would rely on widespread public dissatisfaction with the current administration.
“The winning strategy for the ADC is very simple. The people are with us. The people are tired of maladministration, lies, borrowing, three budgets and three successions not being implemented,” he said.
Melaye also criticised the government over budget implementation, claiming that some contracts awarded in 2024 remained unpaid while the government was still implementing aspects of the 2024 budget in 2026.
He argued that the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians would influence their voting decisions.
“The people in this country have blood flowing through their veins and not kerosene, so they respond to stimuli,” he said.
Melaye further accused the administration of failing to adequately address insecurity, hunger and other challenges affecting Nigerians.
He said the situation had created what he described as a “complete disconnect” between the government and the people.
The ADC chieftain also criticised President Tinubu over remarks he attributed to the President concerning the nature of politics.
“You have a president who has come out on air to tell the whole world that all is fair in politics,” Melaye said.
He argued that political leaders should set an example for younger generations and expressed concern about the impact of presidential statements on political conduct.
Melaye concluded by reiterating his prediction that the 2027 election would lead to a change of government.
“And I am telling you that the results will tell in January 2027,” he said.
