‘I Found Out Through Facebook’ – Lady Speaks After 70-Year-Old Father Announces Wedding

A Nigerian woman has expressed her disappointment after discovering through Facebook that her 70-year-old father is preparing to marry a 35-year-old woman.

The woman said she was shocked to learn about the planned wedding through a post shared on Facebook, rather than receiving a call or being informed during a family discussion.

According to her, her mother is still married to her father, making the development particularly painful for her and raising concerns about her mother’s wellbeing.

The woman recounted how she once held her father in high regard and had even used him as the standard when describing the kind of man she hoped to marry.

“You know how as a teenager you tell everybody who cared to listen you didn’t want to marry somebody who wasn’t like your dad?”

She said she was forced to reconsider those words after discovering her father’s wedding plans on social media.

“I’d like to formally issue a public retraction of that statement because guess how I knew my father was getting married in two weeks? Facebook.”

She explained that a friend sent her the Facebook post announcing the wedding.

“A Facebook post sent to me by my friend. Not a phone call, not a family meeting, but Facebook.”

The woman said the prospective bride is 35 years old, making her exactly half her father’s age.

“And guess who the lucky bride is? A girl half his age.”

She also reflected on her childhood relationship with her father, describing him as her favourite person and a major influence in her life.

“This guy used to be my favourite person in the whole world. He was my standard for everything.”

She added:

“If you asked me who my superhero was, it was him. No competition. He was the blueprint.”

However, she said her father’s reported decision to marry another woman had deeply affected the way she now views him, particularly because of her admiration for her mother and the role she played in keeping the family together.

“And it hurts. It hurts so bad because I know my mum is an incredible woman.”

The woman acknowledged that her mother was not perfect but praised her for supporting the family through difficult periods.

“She may not be perfect, nobody is, but that woman held us together.”

She said her mother had made significant sacrifices for the family when things were difficult.

“That woman carried us on her back for several years when things were tough.”

According to the woman, her father’s circumstances later improved, but she believes his relationship with her mother changed after he became more financially stable.

“But the second my dad got blessed and gained some ground, suddenly my mum wasn’t enough anymore.”

The experience has also changed her perception of her father as the person she once looked up to.

“So yeah, if you ever heard me say I wanted somebody like my dad, please delete it from your memory.”

She distinguished between the father who raised her and the man she believes he has become.

“The man who raised me was impeccably great. But this man, I don’t know him.”

The woman said the reported wedding is scheduled for September 10, while indicating that she intends to stay away from the situation.

“You might as well wish him well on the 10th of September. I’ll be right here minding my business.”

Her account has sparked conversations online about age differences in relationships, remarriage, family communication and the emotional impact of a parent’s decision to marry again.

The woman’s claims about her parents’ marital status and her father’s planned marriage are based on her account. The father and the prospective bride have not publicly responded to her comments.
