Kano Fire Service Rescues 40-Year-Old Man and Cow Trapped in Old Well

The Kano State Fire Service has rescued a 40-year-old man and a cow after both became trapped inside an old well in Sabon Ruwa Village, Makoda Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred at about 3:22 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, according to the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

Abdullahi said the department’s emergency response unit in Danbatta received a distress report after Ibrahim Jibrin visited the fire station to report that a five-year-old cow had fallen into an old well in the community.

According to him, the animal’s owner, identified as Badamasi Ibrahim, attempted to enter the well to save the cow but became trapped and could not get out.

Fire service personnel immediately mobilised to the scene and successfully brought both the man and the animal out of the well alive.

Abdullahi disclosed that Ibrahim experienced breathing difficulties while trapped inside the well.

Following the rescue operation, the Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Alhaji Sani Anas, warned residents against attempting to enter or dive into wells during rescue situations.

Anas said such attempts could expose people to serious injuries or death, particularly when the well is old, deep or contains insufficient oxygen.

He urged members of the public to immediately contact the fire service or other emergency responders whenever people or animals fall into wells, stressing the importance of allowing trained personnel to handle such rescue operations.
