Makinde Slams Tinubu Government Over Exclusion From Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road Flag-Off

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has criticised the Federal Government led by President Bola Tinubu over his exclusion from the official flag-off of the dualisation of the Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road.

The Federal Government flagged off the long-awaited road project on Monday. The major highway connects Ibadan in Oyo State with Ijebu Ode in Ogun State.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Oyo State, Senator Sarafadeen Alli, and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

Makinde, however, said he was not invited to the event despite being the governor of Oyo State.

The governor expressed his displeasure through a statement issued by his Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, on Monday evening.

Makinde described his exclusion as an indication that the Federal Government had allowed political considerations surrounding the 2027 general election to influence the handling of a major infrastructure project.

He argued that the development showed that the Tinubu administration was taking the 2027 political contest too far.

Oyelade, in the statement, said, “The course of 2027 is set, and no level of indecorum or desperation from whatever quarters will hold back the will of the people.”

The Ibadan-Ijebu Ode Road is an important link between Oyo and Ogun states and forms part of a major transportation route connecting communities and commercial centres in the South-West.
