The All Progressives Congress, APC, has disowned Abayomi Hunye, who reportedly claimed to be the party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 Ogun State election, describing him as an imposter.
The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, made the position known in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.
Basiru said Senator Adeola Olamilekan remains the party’s duly recognised governorship candidate for the 2027 election, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate.
“Hunye is not a member of the APC in good standing. He was suspended from the party on April 7, 2026. He is an imposter currently on suspension,” Basiru said.
The APC national secretary explained that Hunye’s suspension followed a petition from his Tube Ward in Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to Basiru, the suspension originated from the grassroots, was ratified by the party’s executive structures and subsequently approved by the Ogun State Working Committee.
“His suspension was ratified by the Ogun State Working Committee and communicated to the national headquarters,” he said.
Basiru described Hunye’s reported declaration as the party’s governorship candidate as false and unauthorised, alleging that it was intended to mislead the public.
He said the reasons cited for Hunye’s suspension included activities considered harmful to the party’s image, alleged anti-party activities and actions allegedly aimed at creating division among party members.
“Consequently, he lacks the legal and moral standing to represent the APC in any capacity,” Basiru added.
The APC said its primary election produced Senator Adeola Olamilekan as the party’s candidate for the Ogun governorship election, with Balogun Abiodun as his running mate.
Basiru further stated that the names and details of the two candidates had been uploaded to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, portal.
He said INEC had issued acknowledgement slips confirming Olamilekan and Abiodun as the APC’s recognised candidates for the 2027 Ogun governorship election.
The APC also warned individuals and organisations against conducting political or financial transactions with Hunye while presenting him as an APC candidate.
“Any person, group or organisation that associates, collaborates or transacts any political business with Hunye under the guise of the APC does so at their own risk,” Basiru said.
He added that the party would not accept responsibility for any financial losses, legal disputes or criminal liability arising from such dealings.
Basiru urged APC supporters to remain calm and law-abiding and called on concerned individuals to contact the party’s national secretariat for official clarification and updates.
