The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has arrested Lagos-based socialite Afolabi Kazeem, popularly known as KC Luxury, over a 184.5kg cocaine consignment valued at about ₦39 billion.
KC Luxury was arrested on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while allegedly attempting to leave Nigeria for Paris on a business class flight.
NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, disclosed the arrest during a press briefing on Tuesday.
According to Marwa, KC Luxury was arrested alongside Lawal Kehinde, an employee of a logistics company, in connection with the cocaine shipment.
The agency described the operation as the largest cocaine seizure from a courier company in its history.
Marwa said operatives intercepted KC Luxury at the airport boarding gate as he allegedly attempted to leave the country.
“This cartel leader did not walk into our custody voluntarily; he intended to flee the country on a business class flight to Paris,” Marwa said.
“Our operatives apprehended him at the boarding gate of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, just as he attempted to escape the reach of the law.”
The NDLEA chairman further disclosed that the suspect was found in possession of expensive jewellery, ₦100,000, £2,800 and €7,750 at the time of his arrest.
Exotic vehicles were also reportedly recovered from his apartment in Banana Island, Ikoyi, Lagos, as part of the ongoing investigation.
