Veteran Nollywood actor Sunday Afolabi has spoken about the financial difficulties he experienced after relocating to Badagry, Lagos State, saying the situation forced him to take up several jobs outside acting.
Afolabi made the disclosure during an appearance on Talk to B Show, where he explained that living in Badagry made it challenging for him to secure acting opportunities in central Lagos.
According to the actor, the difficulty eventually affected his finances and led him to sell his car while searching for other ways to make a living.
He said he subsequently worked as a motorcycle rider and explored several other occupations, including tailoring, solar installation and photography. He also took up commercial minibus driving as part of his efforts to remain financially independent.
Afolabi stressed that he was willing to engage in any legitimate work rather than depend on begging or wait without doing anything to earn a living.
The veteran actor also appealed for assistance with accommodation closer to Lagos, explaining that living nearer to the city’s entertainment centres would make it easier for him to access acting opportunities.
He further requested a reliable vehicle that he could use for ride-hailing services such as Uber. According to him, having such a vehicle would provide an additional source of income while also making it easier for him to attend auditions and return to acting.
Afolabi’s account highlights the financial challenges that some veteran actors face when regular roles and income become difficult to secure, particularly when transportation and accommodation create additional barriers to accessing opportunities in Lagos’ entertainment industry.
