Gunmen have reportedly invaded St. Joseph Catholic Church, Inoyi, in Affa, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, abducting a seminarian and at least one worshipper during a Sunday morning church service.
The incident was made public in a Facebook post by social media influencer Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, who alleged that the attackers stormed the church while Mass was in progress.
According to Ugwuanyi, the gunmen initially abducted a seminarian who had come to celebrate the Mass, a catechist and another worshipper.
He, however, claimed that the kidnappers later released the catechist while taking the seminarian and the other victim into captivity.
Ugwuanyi said local youths have since launched a search operation in nearby bushes in an effort to rescue the victims but are proceeding cautiously because the abductors were reportedly heavily armed.
“The whole village is thrown into frenzy as the search continues,” he wrote, while urging the government to intensify efforts to address the growing insecurity in the area.
In a separate Facebook post, another user shared a video purportedly from the scene, alleging that the attack occurred at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Inoyi, Affa, and appealed to the Enugu State Government to intervene urgently.
