The Osun State Police Command has confirmed that Afrobeats star Davido was reportedly the target of an attack on the convoy of his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, in Osogbo on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon as Adeleke visited the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, shortly after receiving his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
According to the police, security personnel attached to the governor engaged suspected gang members in a gun duel after an alleged attempt was made to gain access to Davido.
The singer and the governor’s children were reportedly in the convoy when the confrontation occurred, causing panic around the palace.
The Osun State Police spokesperson, Abiodun Ojelabi, said preliminary investigations indicated that members of the Eye Confraternity were allegedly behind the incident.
“One Adebayo Taoreed, popularly known as ‘Small Rugged’, an ex-convict, a suspected notorious thug and a member of Eye Confraternity allegedly attempted to gain access to Davido but was resisted by members of his security team,” Ojelabi said.
According to the police, the confrontation attracted other suspected gang members who allegedly blocked the palace entrance and obstructed the governor’s convoy.
The suspects later reportedly fled the area but allegedly opened fire at Itaolokan, Osogbo, where a 60-year-old man identified as Tajudeen Yusuf was hit.
“Upon receiving the information, the police immediately mobilised a patrol team to the scene, where the victim was found lying in a pool of blood,” the police said.
Yusuf was rushed to the University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, for medical attention but was pronounced dead by doctors on duty.
The police command said it has launched a full-scale investigation into the incident and intensified efforts to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The attack occurred days after the Osun State governorship election, in which Davido openly supported Adeleke’s campaign. The governor was declared the winner after securing a second term in office.
