Former Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling is facing a possible jail sentence after being charged with dangerous driving following a Lamborghini crash on the M3 in England.
The 31-year-old footballer is also facing charges relating to the possession of nitrous oxide, commonly known as laughing gas, and allegedly failing to provide a specimen following his arrest.
The charges stem from a single-vehicle collision that occurred on May 28, 2026, on the southbound M3 near the Minley Interchange.
According to the police, no other vehicle was involved in the crash and no injuries were reported.
Sterling is scheduled to appear before Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on September 15, 2026.
A statement from the authorities said the charges followed the Lamborghini collision and confirmed that Sterling would appear in court on the scheduled date.
If convicted of dangerous driving, Sterling could face a maximum prison sentence of two years.
The legal development comes during a difficult period in Sterling’s club career.
After returning to Chelsea, the winger was informed by then-manager Enzo Maresca that he was not part of his plans. Sterling subsequently spent six months away from the first-team setup.
Chelsea eventually terminated his contract in January despite the player having 18 months remaining on a deal reportedly worth £325,000 per week.
Sterling then joined Dutch side Feyenoord in February in an attempt to revive his career.
However, his spell in the Netherlands lasted only a few months. He made eight appearances before becoming a free agent again.
The former Liverpool and Manchester City player now faces the court proceedings alongside uncertainty over his next move in football.
