Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have raided an alleged illegal “baby factory” in Abaren Village, Mowe, rescuing two heavily pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects.
The operation was carried out on August 24, 2026, by officers attached to the Mowe Division following intelligence on alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at the facility.
The suspects arrested were identified as Florence Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Idaya.
The Ogun State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said officers stormed the suspected hideout at Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, around 8am.
According to him, preliminary investigations indicated that alleged human trafficking and illegal adoption activities had been taking place at the facility for some time.
Two pregnant women were rescued during the operation. They were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who was seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who was eight months pregnant.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the location.
Babaseyi said further intelligence-led operations took officers to a hospital in the Mowe area, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, had reportedly given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
While the woman was receiving medical attention, police could not establish the whereabouts of her newborn.
The attending nurse, Oseni Idaya, was subsequently arrested as investigations continued to locate the missing baby.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.
Authorities are expected to establish the full scope of the alleged syndicate’s activities, locate the missing newborn and determine the appropriate charges against those found culpable.
The state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved in the operation and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of criminality across Ogun State.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information about suspicious activities to the police.
