Documents reportedly submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by Senator Chukwu Kelvin Chizoba have raised questions over apparent inconsistencies involving his declared date of birth, educational qualifications and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) records.
Chizoba, who represents Enugu East Senatorial District, reportedly submitted the documents as part of his bid to contest for re-election in the 2027 general elections.
According to a review of the records reported by SaharaReporters, some of the dates contained in the documents appear difficult to reconcile, particularly those relating to the senator’s age and educational history.
The report stated that Chizoba declared under oath that he was born on January 10, 1972.
However, documents attributed to him reportedly indicate that he completed primary education and obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) in 1977.
If both dates are accurate, the timeline would suggest that he completed primary school at approximately five years old, raising questions about the chronology of his educational records.
University and NYSC dates raise further questions
Another apparent discrepancy concerns the dates listed for Chizoba’s university education and compulsory national service.
According to the documents cited in the report, the senator declared that he obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) degree on June 22, 2021.
However, an NYSC certificate reportedly included among his submitted records indicates that he completed the mandatory national service programme between June 9, 1997 and June 8, 1998.
Based solely on those dates, the NYSC service would have been completed approximately 23 years before the stated date of his LL.B qualification.
The records presented in the report do not establish whether the 2021 LL.B was Chizoba’s first university degree or whether he possessed an earlier qualification that formed the basis for his NYSC service.
Senator reportedly contacted for clarification
SaharaReporters said it contacted Chizoba to seek clarification on the apparent inconsistencies and provide him with an opportunity to explain the records.
The senator was reportedly asked to clarify how his January 1972 birth date corresponded with obtaining a primary school certificate in 1977.
He was also asked to explain the relationship between his reported 1997 to 1998 NYSC service and the 2021 LL.B qualification listed in his INEC documents.
