President Donald Trump has announced that the United States has agreed to pause planned military attacks on Iran after what he described as significant progress toward a potential agreement aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.
In a post shared on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump said Iran, alongside other Middle Eastern countries, requested that the United States delay further military action while negotiations continue.
According to the U.S. president, the emerging agreement would include the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and measures to address concerns over Iran’s nuclear programme.
“We have just been asked by Iran, and other Middle Eastern Countries, to hold off any attack in that the perimeters of a deal has been agreed to,” Trump wrote.
“This would include the Immediate, Complete, and Total OPENING OF THE HORMUZ STRAIT, and an end to Iran’s nuclear threat.”
Trump said the U.S. military had been fully prepared to launch additional strikes but decided to suspend the operation to give diplomacy a chance.
“We were locked and loaded and ready to go,” he said, adding that the attacks had been cancelled “subject to being able to rapidly make a DEAL.”
He also claimed that Israel supported the decision to temporarily halt military action while negotiations continue.
The announcement came as the U.S. State Department issued a fresh security advisory urging American citizens across the Middle East to consider leaving the region or be prepared to depart at short notice due to the risk of further escalation.
The advisory warned travellers about possible flight cancellations, airspace closures and broader security concerns affecting several countries across the region.
The warning was distributed through U.S. embassies in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.
Meanwhile, the Kuwait Army announced on Saturday that its air defence systems intercepted drones allegedly launched from Iran.
The latest development follows several months of escalating hostilities between the United States and Iran. Earlier this week, Trump warned that the U.S. was prepared to intensify military action, while Iranian officials vowed to retaliate against any further attacks.
The prolonged conflict has continued to fuel concerns over regional stability, global oil supplies and international energy prices.
