Content creator and social media influencer Amarachi Amusi, popularly known as Ashmusy, has opened up about her public fallout with Big Brother Naija star Phyna, insisting that she never deliberately betrayed the reality TV star.
Ashmusy explained that the controversy began after she became involved in a proposed celebrity boxing event in which Phyna had reportedly recommended her as an opponent.
Speaking with Saturday Beats, Ashmusy said she was initially unsure about participating in the event because she was on holiday in Japan and had not properly considered the details.
According to her, Phyna contacted her about the proposed fight and repeatedly encouraged her to take part.
“I told her I wasn’t sure, but several times in the chat, I told her, ‘I am in. Let’s do it,’ just to go with the flow because I was very busy at the time.”
Ashmusy said she never returned a signed copy of the contract because she had not made a final decision about participating.
She later contacted one of the organisers and asked whether she could select another opponent whose physical build she believed would be a better match for her.
“I am not sure I want to do this fight o, but is it allowed to choose somebody I match with to fight?”
The content creator said she was unaware that choosing another opponent could affect Phyna’s participation in the event.
“This person didn’t inform me that if I picked someone else to fight, it meant Phyna would have to step down or Phyna’s own fight would be delayed. I had no idea.”
Ashmusy said she was also under pressure from the organisers to finalise her participation while she was dealing with a busy schedule during her trip.
She explained that the constant communication and pressure to make payments contributed to the confusion surrounding the arrangement.
The situation later became public after Phyna addressed the matter during live sessions on social media.
Ashmusy said the development exposed her to intense criticism and abuse online.
“Three different live videos were posted on her page. I started being bashed online and being called all sorts of names.”
She said the backlash was particularly painful because she had worked hard to build her personal brand without major public controversies.
“Experiencing that really broke me and hurt me in ways I cannot explain because I had worked too hard to avoid it.”
Ashmusy also alleged that some of the private conversations circulated during the dispute had been altered, although she admitted that she had not reviewed all the messages involved.
She said the only conversation she personally saw contained what she described as a misrepresentation, adding that she avoided going through more posts to protect her mental health.
According to Ashmusy, she later removed a representative identified as Teddy from the situation so she could assess the dispute more clearly.
“After some days, I reflected. I took Teddy out of the picture because, before then, she was the one blocking my view.”
She said doing so helped her understand Phyna’s perspective and acknowledge that the reality star had legitimate reasons to feel hurt.
“I realised, looking at it from the perspective I just explained, that Phyna must be really hurt. But, that was not my intention.”
Ashmusy said she subsequently contacted the organisers and Phyna after receiving death threats and attempted to find a way to resolve the dispute privately.
She claimed that her efforts were initially unsuccessful because the parties involved declined to address the matter publicly.
“I reached out to Phyna to see how we could fix things online, but everybody kept declining. I was painted as the villain, and nobody wanted to come forward or put out a press release.”
Despite the controversy, Ashmusy said she and Phyna have since made progress towards resolving their differences.
“I spoke with Phyna and we sort of reconciled, but on the internet, I am being painted as the evil one.”
The influencer said the experience had changed how she would approach future professional dealings, particularly when contracts, representatives and public figures are involved.
“Whatever the case may be, I have learnt my lesson. I will watch my steps more, and every damage will be fixed, with God on our side.”
