Chief Taoreed Faronbi, popularly known as Baba Alado, a prominent figure in Lagos politics, the transport sector and social circles, has died at the age of 83.
Faronbi died in the early hours of Saturday, September 26, 2026, according to his family.
Until his death, he served as the Olori Ebi of the Alagbeji Royal Family in Papa Ajao, Mushin, and held several traditional and commercial titles, including Akinrogun of Isolo Kingdom and Babaloja of Aswani International Market.
His remains were buried on Saturday according to Islamic rites, with family members, friends, residents and political and community leaders attending the funeral.
Among those who paid their last respects were Senator Ganiyu Olanrewaju Solomon, Executive Chairman of Mushin Local Government Tunbosun Aruwe, and Chairman of Odi-Olowo/Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area, Dr Oluseyi Jakande.
Faronbi was also a well-known figure within the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and was regarded as one of the influential leaders in the transport community in Lagos.
Reacting to his death, NURTW National President Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, described Faronbi as a man whose contributions would be remembered.
“Baba Alado was a man who made his mark, and whose name will remain remembered by many,” MC Oluomo said in a statement.
“His contributions, relationships, and presence within the transport and community space will not be forgotten.”
Beyond his involvement in politics and transportation, Faronbi was also a prominent Lagos socialite who maintained relationships with several leading figures in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
He was particularly known for his association with prominent Fuji and juju musicians, including K1 De Ultimate, Saheed Osupa and Alabi Pasuma, who celebrated him during his lifetime.
Faronbi also had interests in land development and real estate, although some of his activities in the sector were linked to legal and communal disputes over the years.
His death has since drawn tributes from political associates, transport stakeholders, socialites, community leaders and residents of Mushin, where he remained an influential figure for decades.
