The Federal Government has moved the evaluation and authentication of academic certificates fully online, ending the need for applicants to visit the Federal Ministry of Education physically to access the service.
The Federal Ministry of Education announced the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
According to the statement signed by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Boriowo Folasade, the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, said applicants can now complete the certificate evaluation and authentication process through the ministry’s dedicated online platform.
The minister described the initiative as part of the Federal Government’s broader digital transformation programme.
“The initiative is a major step in the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda and aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Under the new arrangement, applicants will no longer need to travel to the ministry’s offices to submit or process requests for certificate evaluation and authentication.
The ministry said the digital system is expected to reduce processing delays and improve access to the service, particularly for Nigerians living outside the country.
The development is also expected to make the verification of academic qualifications more structured for educational institutions, employers and other authorised organisations.
The ministry said the platform will provide a more accessible process for applicants seeking authentication of their academic credentials while supporting institutions and organisations that need to verify qualifications.
The move is part of the Federal Government’s wider effort to digitise public services and reduce reliance on physical documentation and in-person processing.
For Nigerians abroad, the online system could also reduce the need to travel to Nigeria or visit government offices solely to process academic certificate-related requests.
