The Oyo State Government has confirmed the arrest of at least five suspected terrorists following an attack on a security base in the Oke Ogun area of the state.
The suspects were reportedly arrested after gunmen attacked the security facility located along the Igbeti-Igboho Road in the early hours of Sunday.
Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Monday, saying more suspects could still be apprehended as security agencies continue their operations.
“Not less than five of the terrorists have been arrested in military uniforms. More arrests are expected to be made,” Oyelade said.
The commissioner also disclosed that Acting Governor Bayo Lawal had visited the scene of the attack to assess the situation and receive updates on the security response.
The attackers reportedly made away with a generator and a motorcycle during the incident.
The attack had raised fresh concerns over security in Oke Ogun, particularly along the Igbeti-Igboho axis, where communities have previously expressed concerns about criminal activities.
The state government did not disclose the identities of the arrested suspects or provide further details about how they were apprehended.
It also remains unclear whether the attackers were linked to any specific terrorist or bandit group.
Security agencies are expected to continue investigations and operations in the area as authorities work to identify other individuals who may have been involved in the attack.
The arrests have not yet resulted in any court conviction, and the suspects remain suspects pending investigation and possible prosecution.
