Broda Shaggi Reveals How Stray Bullet Nearly Ended His Career, Details Surgery and Recovery

Nigerian comedian and skit maker Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has recounted how a stray bullet left him seriously injured, unable to move his leg properly and uncertain whether he would ever return to the entertainment industry.

The entertainer said the incident occurred on March 9, 2026, after he and his team had completed a brand activation and were leaving the location.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Shaggi explained that their vehicle had been caught in traffic caused by a crowd when he suddenly heard a loud bang.

He initially struggled to understand what had happened, describing a frightening moment when he could see people moving and talking outside the vehicle but could not hear their voices.

“We were done with the activation, we were already leaving. In fact, we were on the express, but there was a hold-up because there was a crowd, and all of a sudden, all I heard was a loud bang,” he recounted.

He added: “But I could still see people moving outside, people talking, but I couldn’t hear what they were saying. It was just total silence in the car.”

The comedian said he realised he had been shot after touching his hip and noticing blood.

“Then I touched my hip and saw blood. That was when it dawned on me that I had been hit by a stray bullet,” he said.

Shaggi described the experience as terrifying, explaining that his immediate concern was whether he would survive the shooting.

He subsequently lost consciousness and remained unconscious until he arrived at the hospital. He said he could not remember how he was transported to the medical facility but recalled praying for his life as his team rushed him for treatment.

According to accounts of the incident, he was initially taken to Blooming Care Hospital in Alakuko, Lagos, before being transferred to Duchess Hospital in Ikeja for further medical attention.

The comedian said he was bleeding and sweating when he arrived for treatment and was desperate for reassurance that he would survive. Medical personnel at the first facility reportedly determined that he needed further treatment, prompting the transfer.

At the second hospital, he was taken into the emergency room. However, after receiving medical attention, he faced another source of distress when he discovered that he could not move his injured leg properly.

For Shaggi, the injury raised fears about his future in entertainment. His comedy performances often involve dancing, physical acting and energetic movements, leaving him worried about whether he would ever be able to perform as he had before.

He also reflected on his demanding work schedule, saying that since 2018, he had spent much of his time writing comedy material, shooting skits, recording music and travelling for professional engagements.

The sudden interruption to his routine was emotionally difficult. He recalled watching videos of fellow entertainers performing and wondering whether he would regain his mobility and return to work.

He also worried that his prolonged absence from social media could cause fans to forget him.

Despite those fears, Shaggi said he tried to remain productive during his recovery. He continued writing content and began working on a YouTube series while receiving medical care.

The entertainer disclosed that he underwent surgery in Nigeria but continued to experience difficulties with movement in his leg. He said concerns about his condition initially prevented doctors from proceeding with another operation.

He later travelled to Dubai for further medical assessment and surgery after consulting a specialist there.

According to Shaggi, the doctor examined him and agreed that the procedure could proceed despite the concerns previously raised about his condition.

The operation became an important turning point in his recovery. He said he was able to stand shortly after the surgery, giving him renewed hope after a prolonged period of limited mobility.

However, his recovery remained gradual. Shaggi recalled a period when he could not move without two crutches and struggled to place his injured leg comfortably on the ground.

Although he eventually regained the ability to stand and walk without crutches, he said he continued to rely on them for support.

Beyond the physical challenges, the comedian said the experience took an emotional toll on him. He recalled questioning why the incident had happened to him and struggling to understand why he had to endure the pain and uncertainty.

He eventually tried to view the enforced break as an opportunity to rest after years of intensive work. He also expressed gratitude that the bullet had struck his hip rather than a more vital part of his body.

Shaggi’s account highlights the uncertainty he faced during recovery, particularly his fears about whether he would regain full mobility and return to the career that had defined much of his adult life.

While he has described improvements following surgery, his account indicates that his recovery has involved ongoing physical and emotional challenges.
