Manchester City have been handed an injury concern ahead of their Premier League meeting with Liverpool after striker Erling Haaland limped off during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League defeat to Portugal.
Haaland signalled towards the Norway bench before being substituted in the 67th minute, with Jørgen Strand Larsencoming on in his place.
The nature and severity of Haaland’s injury have not yet been confirmed, leaving Manchester City waiting for further assessment before their trip to Liverpool on Sunday.
The setback could be a concern for City manager Pep Guardiola, with Haaland having scored seven goals so far this season and remaining a key part of the club’s attack.
Before his substitution, Haaland had gone close to scoring for Norway but dragged an effort wide as his side suffered their third consecutive Nations League defeat.
Norway took the lead in the 36th minute when Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer controlled Martin Ødegaard’s cross on his chest before firing a powerful half-volley into the top corner.
Portugal responded two minutes later through João Cancelo, who struck from the edge of the penalty area to level the score.
Gonçalo Ramos completed Portugal’s comeback with 11 minutes remaining, finishing from close range after receiving a lay-off from João Félix.
Portugal ended the match with 10 men after Francisco Conceição was sent off in the 87th minute after receiving two quick yellow cards for dissent.
The victory secured Portugal’s place in the Nations League quarter-finals, while Norway remain bottom of their group with two matches left.
Manchester City will now await further medical updates on Haaland before determining whether he will be available for the Premier League clash with Liverpool.
