INEC to Brief Nigerians on 2027 Election Preparations as Polls Enter Final 100-Day Stretch

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday, October 6, hold a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference in Abuja as preparations for the 2027 general elections enter the final 100-day stretch.

The commission said the engagement would provide an update on its readiness for the polls, with discussions expected to cover the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures to protect the integrity of the electoral process.

The meeting will take place at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja from 10am and will be addressed by INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, alongside other stakeholders involved in the electoral process.

According to INEC, the meeting is intended to strengthen communication and engagement with institutions and groups whose activities are important to the conduct and security of the elections.

“The national stakeholders’ meeting underlines the Commission’s commitment to absolute transparency, proactive public communication, and collaborative engagement with key actors in the electoral ecosystem,” the commission said.

Expected participants include political party leaders, security agencies participating in the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups.

Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives are also expected to attend.

The engagement comes as INEC moves through key administrative and logistical stages ahead of the 2027 elections. The commission’s official timetable currently lists January 16, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, while the governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027.

INEC has also been working on preparations covering logistics, technology, security, voter education and the recruitment and deployment of election personnel. The commission recently announced plans for a real-time readiness tracker to monitor preparations across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The commission has not indicated that any change to the electoral timetable will be announced at Tuesday’s meeting. Its stated purpose is to provide updates on preparations and engage key actors ahead of the polls.

The event will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed through INEC’s official social media platforms, allowing members of the public to follow the proceedings.

Attendance at the venue will be strictly by invitation. Accredited journalists and invited guests will be required to present their invitation cards or accreditation badges at security checkpoints.
