American rapper Rick Ross has been arrested in Miami-Dade County, Florida, over allegations of domestic violence, including battery and battery by strangulation.
Ross, 50, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts, was taken into custody by Miami Beach Police and booked at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at about 6:10 a.m. on Thursday, October 1.
According to jail records, he faces two charges — battery and battery by strangulation — with both offences classified as domestic violence-related.
The arrest comes days after Ross’ former girlfriend, Jazzma Kendrick, publicly accused him of physical abuse on social media.
Kendrick recently shared an Instagram Story featuring a message from a follower who complimented her appearance. In her response, she made an allegation suggesting that Ross had physically assaulted her.
She also posted photographs showing what appeared to be an injured and swollen lip.
However, it has not been established whether Ross’ arrest is directly connected to Kendrick’s allegations or involves another woman.
According to a report by TMZ, citing sources familiar with the police complaint, another woman allegedly told officers that Ross confronted her over claims that she had lied to him.
The woman reportedly alleged that Ross slapped her and later accused her of being involved with another person. She told police that he allegedly struck her whenever she denied the accusation.
The woman also reportedly provided photographs of injuries to investigators.
Following his arrest, bond was reportedly set at $5,000 for the battery by strangulation charge and $1,000 for the battery charge, bringing the total bond amount to $6,000.
The allegations remain accusations, and the charges have not been established as convictions in court.
