Oyo Police Rescue One-Month-Old Baby Allegedly Sold for ₦2m, Arrest Mother and Doctor

The Oyo State Police Command has rescued a one-month-old baby girl allegedly sold for ₦2 million and arrested two suspects, including the child’s mother and the owner of the health facility where she was delivered.

The incident occurred in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan, with police identifying the arrested suspects as Cecilia Amos, 23, the baby’s mother, and Dr Adeleke Ebenezer, 40, owner of Ebepraise Health Centre in Ido.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Friday, October 16, 2026.

According to the police, the case was reported on October 15 by Mary Amos, who lives in the Ogunwade area of Ido. She told investigators that her daughter gave birth to a baby girl at Ebepraise Health Centre on September 6.

Mary reportedly became suspicious after her daughter allegedly disappeared with the baby about seven days after delivery and could not provide a satisfactory explanation about the child’s whereabouts.

The concern prompted a report to the police, who subsequently arrested Cecilia for questioning.

During interrogation, Cecilia allegedly told investigators that Ebenezer and another suspect, identified as Hassan Oludunni, had persuaded her to participate in the arrangement and facilitated the sale of the child to a person identified as Odunayo Folawewo.

Police said preliminary findings indicated that the baby was allegedly sold for ₦2 million, with Cecilia receiving ₦1 million, while Ebenezer and Oludunni allegedly received ₦500,000 each.

Following the investigation, operatives rescued the baby and arrested Ebenezer. The police said efforts were ongoing to locate and arrest Folawewo and Oludunni.

The command vowed to pursue those allegedly involved in the transaction and reiterated its commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable people from trafficking and related offences.

It also urged members of the public to report suspicious activities involving children and other vulnerable persons to the appropriate authorities.

Residents can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on the toll-free number 615 or reach the police command’s control room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.

The statement was signed by Ayanlade on October 16, 2026. The allegations against the suspects have not been established in court, and the police investigation remains ongoing.
