Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has described the political support expressed for President Bola Tinubu at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council as an unusual development in Nigeria’s democratic history.
Soludo made the observation in Abuja on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during the inauguration of the campaign council ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The governor, who belongs to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), said the participation of political leaders from different backgrounds demonstrated a broad alignment around Tinubu’s leadership.
According to a statement issued by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA), Soludo highlighted the importance of political cooperation, economic reforms and effective leadership in achieving national development.
He pointed to the participation of approximately 31 state governors at the gathering, describing it as an indication of the level of political support surrounding the President.
However, the observation should not be interpreted as a formal endorsement of Tinubu by every governor or as evidence of unanimous support among Nigerian voters.
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria also assessed the economic policies of the Tinubu administration, describing its approach as pragmatic progressivism.
Drawing on his experience as an economist, Soludo argued that the administration had taken steps to confront long-standing structural problems in Nigeria’s economy rather than defer difficult policy decisions.
He maintained that the government’s reform agenda should be assessed against the economic challenges the country faced before Tinubu assumed office and the measures introduced to address them.
The governor also emphasised the importance of sound public finance management in shaping economic policy and creating conditions for sustainable growth.
Tinubu’s economic reforms have generated considerable debate across the country. While supporters argue that the policies are necessary to address structural weaknesses and improve the economy over time, critics have raised concerns about the immediate effects on households and businesses.
Soludo’s remarks reflected his position that confronting Nigeria’s underlying economic problems is necessary to establish a foundation for long-term prosperity.
His appearance at the APC campaign council inauguration also attracted attention because he remains a member of APGA, highlighting the possibility of cooperation across party lines on issues of national interest.
The development comes as political activities gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general election, with parties and political stakeholders positioning themselves for the contest.
FORCEPA’s media team said Soludo’s address placed economic policy, institutional performance and political cooperation at the centre of discussions about the country’s future.
The organisation also underscored the role of federal parastatals and public institutions in implementing government policies, documenting development programmes and providing Nigerians with reliable information about public-sector activities.
