Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has urged opposition politicians to acknowledge the achievements of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, arguing that political differences should not prevent them from recognising policies they consider beneficial to Nigeria.
Wike made the statement on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja. The event brought together party leaders, governors and other political stakeholders ahead of the next phase of political activities.
Despite identifying as a member and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the former Rivers State governor defended his decision to support Tinubu, insisting that party loyalty should not prevent politicians from recognising positive developments under an administration led by another political party.
Wike also rejected opposition claims that the Tinubu administration lacked direction, arguing that the President had shown a willingness to tackle longstanding national challenges that previous governments had struggled to address effectively.
On security, the FCT minister expressed confidence in the administration’s ability to confront insecurity across the country. He also highlighted the proposed introduction of state police as a reform that could strengthen security operations and improve responses to local threats.
The proposal for state police has remained a subject of national debate, with discussions focusing on constitutional provisions, funding, accountability and the need to prevent the misuse of state security institutions.
Wike further challenged members of the Presidential Campaign Council to demonstrate their political relevance through tangible results in their respective areas of responsibility.
He maintained that political appointments and official positions should translate into measurable achievements rather than serve as titles without corresponding results.
The inauguration also featured political figures from different parties, including Anambra State Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, according to a review of the event released by the Media and Publicity Team of the Forum of Chief Executives of Federal Parastatals (FORCEPA).
In its review, the FORCEPA team identified Wike’s remarks as one of the notable contributions to discussions surrounding governance, political competition, security reforms and national development.
The organisation also emphasised the importance of assessing government performance through verifiable policies, measurable outcomes and their impact on Nigerians across different sectors.
Wike’s comments highlight the political dynamics surrounding support for Tinubu’s administration, particularly as political stakeholders continue to debate its policies and performance.
