President Bola Tinubu has nominated six executive directors for the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), including three returning officials and three new nominees, for five-year terms subject to Senate confirmation.
The nominations were disclosed on Friday, October 30, 2026, in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Tinubu communicated the nominations to the Senate in a letter dated October 30, requesting that the lawmakers consider them expeditiously to ensure continuity in the agency’s operations and strengthen its regulatory oversight.
The three executive directors renominated by the President are Abiodun Adeniji, for Finance and Accounts; Ogbugo Ukoha, for Distribution Systems, Storage and Retailing Infrastructure; and Dr Mustapha Lamorde, for Health, Safety, Environment and Community.
The three new nominees are Mobolaji Musa, for Hydrocarbon Processing Plants, Installations and Transportation Infrastructure; Ogechukwu Modie, for Economic Regulations and Strategic Planning; and Said Abutalib, for Corporate Services and Administration.
All six nominees are expected to serve five-year terms if their appointments are confirmed by the Senate.
The statement said the President had urged the Senate to give the nominations prompt consideration to strengthen the authority’s institutional capacity and maintain continuity in its regulatory responsibilities.
Tinubu also approved the appointment of Jumoke Gafar as Secretary to the NMDPRA Board and Legal Adviser, subject to the completion of the statutory procedures prescribed under Section 46 of the Petroleum Industry Act.
The latest nominations come months after Tinubu appointed Rabiu Umar as the authority’s chief executive in April 2026.
The NMDPRA is responsible for regulating Nigeria’s midstream and downstream petroleum sectors, including gas processing, transportation, storage, distribution and petroleum product supply.
