Former Turkish referee and football commentator Ahmet Çakar has tipped Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to become the Premier League’s leading goalscorer if he moves to England’s top flight.
Çakar made the claim while discussing Osimhen’s performance for Galatasaray against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League, despite acknowledging that the Nigerian forward had only recently returned from injury.
Speaking on the Libero TV YouTube channel, Çakar praised Osimhen’s ability and insisted that the striker possesses the quality to play for any club in world football.
“Osimhen, you know, he could play for any team in the world, he’d be the top scorer in the Premier League,” Çakar said.
However, the former referee also questioned Galatasaray’s overall performance against Barcelona and whether the team created enough opportunities for Osimhen to make a greater impact.
“I didn’t see anything like that in this match [Galatasaray vs Barcelona]. I admit, he has just recovered from injury, but what kind of performance did the team give him that he should play like that?” he added.
Çakar’s assessment highlighted both his confidence in Osimhen’s individual ability and his reservations about the team’s display in the Champions League encounter.
The Nigerian international has established himself as one of Galatasaray’s key attacking players, with his physical strength, movement, finishing and ability to trouble defenders making him an important part of the club’s forward line.
His performances in Turkey have continued to attract attention, while his reputation has also fuelled discussion about how he might perform in other major European leagues.
A move to the Premier League, however, would present a different challenge, and Çakar’s prediction remains an opinion rather than a guarantee of how Osimhen would perform in England.
Osimhen will now look to return to action for Galatasaray as they prepare to face Gençlerbirliği in the Turkish Süper Lig on Saturday, with the striker hoping to help his side secure another victory.
