A video showing Vice President Kashim Shettima running towards the podium and displaying his signature dance moves at an All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Cross River State has sparked reactions on social media.
The footage, which has circulated online, showed Shettima and the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, running towards the podium during the party’s rally at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.
After reaching the stage, the Vice President broke into his familiar dance moves, while Yilwatda also joined him in an apparent effort to energise supporters gathered at the venue.
The moment attracted attention online, with some social media users interpreting Shettima’s display of physical energy as an attempt to counter questions and comments about President Bola Tinubu’s fitness to continue governing Nigeria.
Among those who reacted was Aisha Yesufu, a chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) and supporter of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Sharing the video on her verified X account, Yesufu suggested that politicians were responding to a challenge associated with Obi.
“Peter Obi don give Nigerian politicians assignment,” she wrote.
Another social media personality, Shehu Gazali Sadiq, also commented on the footage, using the opportunity to criticise the APC’s campaign and question the atmosphere at the rally.
Sadiq described the event as lacking excitement and enthusiasm, while claiming that the crowd was relatively small.
He also mocked the Vice President’s appearance on stage, suggesting that Shettima’s run was intended to demonstrate that the President was physically fit to govern.
“This is APC campaign rally in Cross River state. Kashim Shettima ran a 100m race to prove that Tinubu is fit,” he wrote.
Sadiq further predicted that the APC and Tinubu would lose the January 16 election, although he did not provide evidence to support the prediction.
The video has continued to generate discussions online, particularly over the role of public appearances and physical displays by political leaders during election campaigns.

A flat rally. No excitement, no enthusiasm, very dull and negative atmosphere. The crowd was scanty. Sowore will pull more crowd than this one🤣
Bro, APC and Tinubu…

The reactions reflect differing interpretations of Shettima’s actions, with supporters and critics using the viral moment to make broader arguments about the APC’s campaign and the political contest ahead.
