United States President Donald Trump has said he could move to Israel and become the country’s prime minister if Americans eventually become dissatisfied with his leadership.
Trump made the remark on Tuesday during an interview with Fox News, coinciding with the US midterm elections.
Speaking about the relationship between the United States and Israel, the President claimed that he enjoys overwhelming support among Israelis, putting his approval rating in the country at 99 per cent.
He suggested that his popularity in Israel could make him welcome there if he ever lost the support of Americans.
“My approval rating in Israel is 99 per cent. If people in the United States get fed up with me, I’ll move to Israel and become prime minister,” Trump said.
The comment came amid discussions about the close relationship between Washington and Tel Aviv, which has remained a major subject of debate in American politics and international relations.
Trump has repeatedly expressed strong support for Israel, making the relationship between both countries an important feature of his foreign policy.
His latest remark, delivered humorously during the television interview, has drawn attention to his claims of popularity in Israel and his longstanding political relationship with the country.
