A legal dispute has emerged over the estate of late Hollywood actor Chadwick Boseman, with his brothers, Kevin and Derrick Boseman, petitioning a Los Angeles court to remove his widow, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman, as the administrator of his estate.
The brothers filed court documents on Friday, alleging that Taylor has failed to properly manage and distribute the actor’s assets, despite a court ruling issued in 2022.
According to the filing, Chadwick Boseman died without leaving a will, prompting the court to divide his estate between his immediate family. Under the ruling, Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman was granted control of 50 percent of the estate, while the remaining half was allocated to the actor’s parents, Leroy and Carolyn Boseman.
Kevin and Derrick claim that nearly four years after the ruling, several key aspects of the estate have not been settled. They allege that family members have received little information about the administration of the estate and remain unaware of the status of major assets.
The estate reportedly includes income from film residuals and royalties, intellectual property rights, image and likeness rights, investment holdings, insurance policies, bank accounts and personal possessions. Court filings also reference more than $3 million reportedly held across multiple bank accounts.
The brothers further alleged that Taylor has not transferred a long-term care insurance policy to their mother, failed to distribute funds from Chadwick Boseman’s bank accounts, and has not provided a full accounting of posthumous SAG-AFTRA residual payments or other unclaimed assets linked to the late actor.
They argued that the prolonged delay has prevented Chadwick Boseman’s parents from receiving assets awarded to them by the court and has limited the family’s ability to pursue projects intended to preserve and expand the actor’s legacy. The filing also claims the family has repeatedly raised these concerns but has not received a satisfactory resolution.
As part of their legal request, Kevin and Derrick are asking the court to hold Taylor Simone Ledward Boseman in contempt for allegedly failing to comply with the 2022 court order. They also want the court to compel her to submit a complete financial accounting of the estate and finalize the distribution of all remaining assets within 30 days.
In addition, the brothers are seeking her permanent removal as administrator of the estate and have proposed attorney Jason Rubin as her replacement. They further request that Taylor be barred from entering into significant agreements involving Chadwick Boseman’s estate without the family’s approval, be required to disclose all estate-related contracts, and cover the family’s legal expenses.
Chadwick Boseman, widely celebrated for his role as King T’Challa in Marvel’s Black Panther, died on August 28, 2020, after a private four-year battle with colon cancer. He was 43 years old. His death shocked fans around the world and prompted widespread tributes celebrating his contributions to film and his enduring cultural legacy.
